August 1st is here, and for this month’s "Notes from June Sky," I’m pulling back the curtain on something very personal: the physical foundation of The Night Chronicles.

In a world that feels increasingly digital, my creative process remains stubbornly analog. My most prized possession isn't a laptop or a fancy piece of software—it’s my "Story Bible."

The Binder That Holds a World
If you were to walk into my office, you’d see a thick, well-worn binder sitting prominently on my desk. It is the beating heart of Lunaria. Inside, I have everything meticulously organized:

Character Profiles: Detailed backstories and motivations for every soul who walks the pages of my books.

Flora and Fauna: Sketches and descriptions of the natural world of Lunaria, documenting the unique plant life that inhabits this realm.

The Nitty-Gritty: The laws, histories, and secrets that give the world its weight.

Deepening the Magic (Books 4 & 5)
Lately, my research sessions have been intense. As I immerse myself in writing Books 4 and 5, I have realized that the stakes in Lunaria are shifting. The magic I once established needs to be more precise, more complex, and perhaps even more dangerous.

I have spent the last few weeks adding entirely new sections to the "Magic" tab of my binder. For me, magic isn't just about what a character can do—it’s about the cost of that power and the rigid rules they must follow. Writing these rules out by hand with my favorite pens helps me visualize the consequences of that magic in a way that typing on a screen simply doesn't capture.

There is something deeply satisfying about the tactile nature of this work. It grounds the chaos of the story in something real.
