If you’ve been following along, you know that Daemon is far more than just the antagonist who kicks off our story. He is a King of immense power who presents a facade of absolute control and cold authority. I wanted to share a little insight into how I keep his voice razor-sharp, whether he’s playing the role of a cold, calculating captor or letting those rare, terrifying glimpses of vulnerability slip through his regal exterior.
The Duality of the Nocturni King
Writing Daemon is an exercise in tension. His core motivation is driven by ancient prophecies, and he is willing to use cruelty, manipulation, and fear to achieve his goals. What truly fascinates me—and what I think drives the friction in his relationship with Liz—is his internal conflict.
He hates the methods of his father, the First King, yet he finds himself caught in a complex game of wills with his "asset," Liz. It is a constant battle where Duty Demands Sacrifice, and for Daemon, the greatest sacrifice might just be his own hardening heart.
Why He Remains the Heart of the Chaos
Whether he’s in his tailored Earth attire or his formidable Lunarian armor, Daemon moves through these pages with a predatory grace that I hope you all feel when you read. He is a man who forces obedience, but as the series progresses, he’s learning that control is a fragile thing, especially when faced with the power of the "Scion of Two Bloods".
