Today, I’m turning our focus to the very ground beneath our characters' feet. To truly understand the realm of Lunaria, you have to understand the Lapis.
What is the Lapis?
The Lapis is not merely dirt and stone; it is the foundational bedrock of Lunaria. It is a tapestry woven from shadow, stone, and resonant energy, constantly being shaped and reshaped by forces both physical and arcane.
Why the Lapis is Vital
The Lapis is an active expression of the realm’s magical nature, and its composition defines the limits and possibilities of life in our world:
- Magical Infusion: Almost all Lapis is deeply infused with Umbra, which renders the materials denser and darker than mundane rock, giving Lunaria its signature atmosphere and light-absorbing qualities.
- The Source of Resources: It is the host for essential materials that power our society—from the resilient Adamant Lapis used to fortify our keeps, to the Resonance Lodes that provide the energy for our light and infrastructure.
- A Magical Barometer: Because the land is so deeply connected to magic, the Lapis reacts to the realm’s energies. Changes in the land, such as the "weeping" of obsidian fields, serve as critical diagnostic tools for those who know how to read them.
The Living Earth
Our geology is as much about magic as it is about physics. From the vast Umbraglass Plains that reflect the moons to the deep, geothermally active caves where Grave Truffles thrive, the Lapis determines where we can build, trade, and tread with caution. Without the Lapis, Lunaria would have no structure and no magic to channel. It is the canvas upon which the history of the First King and the Shadow Accord has been written.
